Homegrown31

#HomeGrown31 is a youth-led programme by Powered By CAN , supporting the creative and social empowerment of young people aged 12–30 across the Black Country and Birmingham. Designed to unlock potential and platform emerging talent from all backgrounds, the project offered young people opportunities to lead, create, and thrive.

Katie worked as Producer on HomeGrown31 with Creative Academies Network (now Powered by CAN), overseeing the delivery of multiple programme strands that blended music, poetry, performance, and community engagement. Her role involved end-to-end project management, from artist and partner coordination to workshop facilitation and live event delivery.

Key strands included:

Commissioning Programme – supporting young creatives to develop original work and lead their own projects

MADE (Music Ain’t Diverse Enough) – a music-focused initiative working with young people at risk of social exclusion, including those in alternative education and pupil referral units.

The Plug – a performance platform showcasing emerging music talent across the region

On Your Doorstep – poetry workshops and the creation of a youth-led print magazine, amplifying local voices and stories

Katie’s work on HomeGrown31 helped create meaningful pathways for young people to develop confidence, skills, and creative ownership , with a focus on equity, inclusion, and self-expression
